Biometric Information Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
What this policy covers
Adding a photo of your face is optional. Your letter is complete without it. If you choose to add one, this policy explains exactly what happens to it.
What we do with your photo
We look at your facial expression – your gaze, brows, lines of expression, mouth and jaw – and describe it in plain words for one chapter of your letter. We do not measure or store the geometry of your face, we do not create a face template or scan, and we never use your photo to identify you.
Your consent
We only process a photo after you tick a separate consent box that states this purpose and links to this policy. We record the time of your consent. You can only add a photo of your own face – never someone else’s.
How long we keep it
Your photo is used once. It is permanently deleted from our systems after your expression is described, and in any case within 24 hours of upload, whether or not your letter is written. The written description becomes part of your letter, which you can delete at any time.
The service provider that writes the description (Anthropic) may keep the image for up to 30 days to enforce its usage policies, as its API terms allow, and does not use it to train its models.
No sale, no sharing
We never sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from your photo, and we never disclose it to anyone except the provider that writes the description.
Where the photo option isn’t available
The photo option isn’t offered to residents of Illinois or Texas, or when we can’t tell from your order where you live.
