The plate nobody thought to fix for you
Sunday dinner is over. Everyone ate, everyone laughed, and now the house is quiet except for the water running over the last pan. Somewhere between setting the table and wrapping the leftovers, you realize nobody asked if you’d eaten. You did, sort of. Standing up, in between other things.
“I give everything to everyone and nobody even notices. Why do I keep doing it?” There’s tiredness in that question, and something under the tiredness. Hurt, maybe. The quiet kind that never makes a scene.
You were born with the Sun in Virgo. Virgo sees what needs doing before anyone else does: the empty soap dispenser, the birthday coming up, the friend who sounds a little off on the phone. You don’t decide to help. You’re already halfway there. And your Capricorn rising makes it all look easy, so people assume you’ve got it, and that you don’t need anything back.
Here’s the part that might be harder to see. Giving may be the one way you’ve let yourself reach for people. Asking feels exposed. Giving feels safe. So you give, and somewhere inside you hope it gets noticed, because being noticed would mean being cared for without having to ask.
That’s why stopping feels impossible. If you put the dish towel down, you’re left with the wanting itself, plain and uncovered. And that wanting isn’t selfish. It’s the same care you give everyone, turned around and looking for you.
Tonight, when the kitchen is finally done, you might sit for a moment, close your eyes and rest your hands palms down on the table. Feel the middle of your chest from the inside. Not to fix anything. Just to let one person in the house get your full attention.
There’s nothing wrong with how much you give. There’s just been one person missing from the list.
